We have started a fun project here at the Art of Brewing, Keri and I are brewing a Belgian Style tripel that will be aged in a 46 liter Hungarian oak barrel that had port in it for the last 7 years.
We chose for a fairly light beer - in colour/flavour that is, the alcohol is up there - and are hoping for a nice addition from the barrel. No idea yet how long the beer will stay in the barrel.
Last week we brewed the first batch, today the second, next week the 3rd. We estimated that we would need at least a total of 75 liter of beer, for filling the barrel, topping off, bottling some beer un-barreled, and maybe some for blending.
